# untick > untick is a dark pattern and cookie consent scanner for websites. It visits a site as a brand-new visitor in a real browser and reports trackers that load before consent, cookie banners without a reject option, reject buttons that are ignored, pre-ticked consent and marketing checkboxes, fake countdown timers, scarcity claims and confirmshaming — with screenshots, network evidence and copy-paste fixes. It also monitors sites and emails when a release introduces a new issue. ## Key pages - [Free scan](https://untick.io/): paste a URL, get a graded report in about a minute - [What untick checks](https://untick.io/rules): the full rulebook - [Pricing](https://untick.io/pricing) - [Online stores](https://untick.io/for/ecommerce): Check your Shopify, WooCommerce or custom store for trackers before consent, pre-ticked newsletter boxes, fake countdown timers and missing reject buttons. Evidence and fixes in 60 seconds. - [SaaS companies](https://untick.io/for/saas): untick monitors your marketing site, pricing and signup flows for trackers before consent, pre-ticked terms and cookie banner issues — and alerts you when a release reintroduces one. - [Agencies](https://untick.io/for/agencies): Audit and monitor every client site for consent violations and dark patterns. White-label shareable reports, 50 sites, daily monitoring — built for web and marketing agencies. - [Publishers](https://untick.io/for/publishers): Ad-funded sites run dozens of vendors. untick shows which advertising trackers load before consent, whether reject works, and whether consent purposes are pre-ticked. ## Checks - [Trackers fire before consent](https://untick.io/rules/tracking-before-consent) (critical): Analytics or advertising scripts load, or set cookies, the moment a visitor lands — before they have said yes. - [Tracking continues after “Reject”](https://untick.io/rules/tracking-after-reject) (critical): After we clicked the banner’s reject option, advertising or analytics requests kept firing. - [Trackers without any consent banner](https://untick.io/rules/no-consent-banner) (high): The site loads trackers or sets non-essential cookies but shows no consent prompt at all. - [No “Reject” on the first layer](https://untick.io/rules/no-reject-option) (high): The banner offers “Accept” but refusing takes extra clicks through settings — or is not possible at all. - [Consent or pay — no free way to say no](https://untick.io/rules/consent-or-pay) (medium): The only free option is to accept tracking. Visitors who say no have to pay or subscribe. This may not meet EU regulator guidance. - [“Reject” is harder to see than “Accept”](https://untick.io/rules/unequal-choice) (medium): Both choices exist, but reject is styled as a faint link or a much smaller button while accept is bold and colored. - [Consent categories are pre-ticked](https://untick.io/rules/pre-ticked-consent) (high): Marketing, analytics or “legitimate interest” toggles in the consent settings are switched on by default. - [Pre-ticked marketing opt-in](https://untick.io/rules/pre-ticked-marketing) (high): A form checkbox for newsletters, offers or partner marketing is already ticked when the page loads. - [Agreement checkbox ticked for the user](https://untick.io/rules/pre-ticked-agreement) (medium): A checkbox that records agreement (terms, auto-renewal, data sharing) is ticked before the user touches it. - [Countdown timer pressure](https://untick.io/rules/fake-urgency) (medium): A ticking countdown pushes visitors to decide fast. We flag it so you can confirm the deadline is real. - [Scarcity & social-proof claims](https://untick.io/rules/scarcity-claims) (low): Messages like “only 3 left” or “12 people are looking at this” appear on the page. - [Guilt-trip opt-out wording](https://untick.io/rules/confirmshaming) (medium): The option to decline is phrased to make people feel foolish (“No thanks, I don’t like saving money”). - [No privacy policy link](https://untick.io/rules/missing-privacy-policy) (medium): We couldn’t find a link to a privacy policy on the page. ## Plans - Free: $0/month — 1 site, Homepage scan, 5 scans a month, Full evidence & fixes, 30-day history - Pro: $49/month — 5 sites, Up to 8 key pages per scan, Daily monitoring + email alerts, Shareable & printable reports, 2-year history - Agency: $199/month — 50 client sites, Up to 15 pages per scan, White-label client reports, Daily monitoring + alerts, 5-year history ## FAQ ### What does untick actually check? untick opens your site in a real browser as a brand-new visitor with no cookies and records what happens: which trackers and cookies load before consent, whether your banner offers a real “Reject” option, whether reject is honored, whether consent toggles or marketing checkboxes are pre-ticked, and pressure patterns like fake countdowns and guilt-trip opt-outs. ### How is this different from a cookie banner (CMP)? A consent tool shows the banner. untick checks whether it actually works. Most fines happen to sites that already have a banner — tags fire before it is answered, reject is hidden, or refusals are ignored. untick tests the behavior, not the configuration. ### Is untick legal advice? No. untick gives you evidence (network requests, cookies, screenshots) and practical fixes mapped to the rules regulators cite, such as the GDPR, the ePrivacy Directive, CNIL guidance and California’s CPRA regulations. For legal decisions, talk to your privacy counsel — with a report they can read in two minutes. ### Do you collect data about my visitors? No. untick never installs a script on your site. We visit your public pages the same way any visitor would, and only store the scan results, screenshots of your pages and the evidence we collected. ### Does it work with Shopify, WordPress, Webflow or my own stack? Yes. untick is platform-agnostic because it tests what the browser actually receives. It recognises common consent platforms like OneTrust, Cookiebot, CookieYes, Didomi and Usercentrics and tailors fix instructions to them. ### How does monitoring work? On Pro and Agency, untick re-scans your sites daily or weekly and emails you only when something new appears — for example, when a marketing team adds a pixel that fires before consent. Each alert links to the evidence and the fix. ### What is the untick badge? An embeddable badge that shows your site’s current dark-pattern grade and links to a public verification page. It updates with every scan and reverts to “pending” if a site hasn’t been checked for 10 days, so it can’t go stale. ### Can agencies use untick for clients? Yes. The Agency plan covers 50 client sites, shareable read-only reports, and white-label reports that show your agency’s name instead of ours.
