What EU law now requires
Article 11a of the Consumer Rights Directive requires a withdrawal function for contracts made online: a button labelled “withdraw from contract here” (or an unambiguous equivalent), available for the whole withdrawal period, leading to a short form, a “confirm withdrawal” button and an automatic receipt.Read the full guide.
How the checker decides
- Is it a shop?
We look for a shop platform (Shopify, WooCommerce and others), or a cart link together with “add to cart” buttons or product data.
- Does it sell to the EU?
An EU domain, prices in euros, or a page in an EU language other than English.
- Is the button there?
We look for a withdrawal link or button in 11 languages. A link to your withdrawal policy doesn’t count.
- Evidence either way
If we can’t find it, you get a screenshot of your footer, the pages we checked and the exact label to add.
The labels we look for
The official wording, plus common equivalents. Your button can use any unambiguous formulation in your shop’s language.

Questions people ask
We only sell in Germany. Which wording should we use?
„Vertrag widerrufen“ for the button and „Widerruf bestätigen“ for the confirmation step, or another unambiguous equivalent. The German law uses exactly these words.
The button is in our customer account. Will the check find it?
No: we only see public pages, and the finding says which ones we checked. Keep in mind that guests who ordered without an account need to reach it too.
Our shop is in English but sells to the EU. Is it checked?
Yes, when we see an EU domain or euro prices. An English-only shop with neither isn’t judged, because we can’t tell whether it sells to EU consumers.
How many pages are checked?
The free scan checks your homepage, where the button usually belongs (in the footer). Pro checks up to 8 key pages per scan, and Agency up to 15.
