Short answer: Yes, if you sell online to EU consumers who have a right of withdrawal. Since 19 June 2026, Article 11a of the Consumer Rights Directive requires a withdrawal function labelled “withdraw from contract here” (in German „Vertrag widerrufen“), available throughout the withdrawal period, followed by a “confirm withdrawal” step and a receipt by email.

Does my online shop need a “withdraw from contract” button?

The shop sells online to EU customers, but we found no “withdraw from contract here” button on its public pages.

Since 19 June 2026, EU shops must let customers withdraw online through a clearly labelled button that stays available for the whole withdrawal period. In Germany, if customers aren’t properly informed about the function, the withdrawal period can run for up to 12 months and 14 days instead of 14 days, and warning letters have started.

Yes, to any contract concluded online where the consumer has a right of withdrawal: goods, services, digital content and, since this change, financial services sold at a distance. Contracts without a withdrawal right, such as custom-made goods, don’t need it.

Can the button sit in the customer account?

It has to be easy to reach for the whole withdrawal period. German guidance says it must work without logging in when people can order as guests.

What happens if it’s missing?

In Germany, missing information about the function can extend the withdrawal period to 12 months and 14 days, and the first warning letters (Abmahnungen) were reported in August 2026. Other countries set their own penalties; France’s allow administrative fines.
